How offline play works

fun.study is a Progressive Web App. During the first online setup, its service worker stores the interface, player and supported WebAssembly emulator cores in the browser cache. ROMs and saves use separate browser-private storage.

After both parts are ready, the installed app can open and launch stored games without a network connection.

Prepare the app while online

  1. Open https://fun.study in the browser you plan to use.
  2. Open Storage information and confirm that Offline shows “Ready.”
  3. Select Add ROMs and add the games you want available offline.
  4. Open Storage information and select Keep ROMs stored.
  5. Launch at least one game and confirm that its emulator starts.

Browser data is tied to the exact address. Use fun.study consistently; the Cloudflare fallback address has a separate library.

Install on Android or desktop Chrome

When the browser offers installation, the fun.study header shows an Install button. Select it and confirm the browser prompt. You can also use the browser menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen, depending on the platform.

Launch the installed icon once while still online so the standalone window can complete its first load.

Add to Home Screen on iPhone or iPad

  1. Open fun.study in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button.
  3. Choose Add to Home Screen.
  4. Confirm the name and tap Add.
  5. Open the new fun.study icon from the Home Screen.

If Safari does not show the action immediately, scroll the Share sheet or edit its action list.

Test before a trip

Turn on airplane mode or disconnect Wi-Fi, then open the installed app and launch a game already in the library. The library, emulator and ROM should load. If only the library opens, reconnect once and let the first emulator setup finish.

How updates work

The app checks for a new version when it opens online. When an update has finished downloading, an Update ready banner appears. Select Update when you are ready to reload. Your ROM library remains in its separate local storage.

Understand browser storage

  • Installing the PWA does not move ROMs into a cloud account.
  • Clearing site data can remove the library, saves and cached app.
  • Private browsing storage normally disappears when the private session ends.
  • A different browser, profile, hostname or device has a separate library.
  • Storage persistence is a request; the browser decides whether to grant it.
  • PlayStation and DOS files larger than 128 MB need OPFS support and can use much more device storage.
  • An optional PlayStation BIOS is stored with this site's local browser data, not in the app cache.

Keep original ROM files outside the browser and export important saves from the emulator menu.

Offline checklist

  • Storage information shows Offline as “Ready.”
  • The games appear in the library.
  • Each system you need has launched once.
  • Keep ROMs stored was requested.
  • The installed app successfully opened in airplane mode.
